One hour of digital video (from a MiniDV camcorder) requires 13GB of space while HD (High Definition) video can require even more.

How Fast Do I Need?

Select a drive that is at least 7200RPMs. A slower drive may not be able to keep up when transferring video from a camcorder, which will result in dropped frames. From what I have seen, a 10,000RPM (or faster) drive doesn’t improve video editing performance all that much. Test results comparing these two speeds shows that only seconds are saved while rendering a project.
